The Winds of Dune by Brian Herbert, Kevin J Anderson
Again, we are getting some of the missing pieces of the puzzle that was Paul Atraides' life. Paul Maud'Dib was attacked and blinded by the burning out of his eyes - an act that left his eyes blind, though he could still "see", proving once again that he is the true Messiah.
Paul, in order to stop the tidal wave of his power from taking away his own humanity, enlists in secret both his mother and his old childhood friend to start writing pamphlets of Paul's life that depict him as just a person. These writings are meant to show that Paul is just a human being, as human as anyone else.
Finally having had more than he can stand of the nonsense that has become his life, Paul Maud'Dib walks into the desert, blind and alone. His last words heard were "I am free." Perhaps he has died in the sand, perhaps, as it is rumored, he still lives. No one is certain either way.
This book is a wonderful addition to the Dune saga, spellbinding reading. This is truly a must-have book.

Freedom's Ransom by Anne McCaffrey
The new system from the Botany "I dropped, I stay" has turned into a whole new ballgame. Zainal's friend who went back to their home planet Catten did not get quite as much support with the Cattini people as they had all hoped for. There are a number of incidences of hoarding of the items of Earth, leaving Earth in many ways, literally bankrupt.
The unusual way around this problem, oddly enough, is coffee (apparently, Cattini are just as addicted to coffee as anyone in Seattle Washington! Using coffee beans as a currency with the new system, Bjornsen and Zainal set off on a new adventure - this time to ransom back so much of the desperately needed equipment for their use on Botany.
Once again, Zainal and Bjornsen are on a whirlwind adventure, that will leave the reader breathless, and unable to put the book down until it's done. Enjoy!
