Maglite XL50 has a nicer beam and is way more compact.
1 of 1 found this helpful I love Maglites, but this is nowhere near a high performance light. This is more of a "leave it in the utility closet for a power outage" kind of light that isn't made in China and runs on the D cell batteries I have laying around, which is exactly what I bought it for. High performance lights with rechargeable lithium ion cells have a high self discharge rate so they aren't ideal for emergency use, and I can't leave an extra pack of batteries around.
I would not recommend this light if you need something compact or light for EDC, a tool bag, or walking the dog. The Maglite XL50 is much smaller and lighter, runs on Alkaline, Rechargeable, or Lithium Primaries, and has comparable light output. Sure, the runtime isn't as long, but it makes a lot more sense to carry a few extra AAA batteries than D Cells.

Works with older style gold anodized SMC...
Works with older style gold anodized SMC 30 series bodies. The Painted White with the "-A" suffix need the newer style brackets, which are backwards compatible.

Awesome pen light! Great output and light color.
2 of 2 found this helpful These lights are great! So great, in fact, that I own 3! There is a noticeable decline in light output as the batteries "wear out", which they are upfront about on the package. The switch is great and can be used as either a momentary switch or a true on/off switch. Works well with eneloops as well as Alkaline batteries. If you plan to keep one in your car for emergencies, be sure to use Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries! High temps can cause alkaline batteries to leak, swell, and ruin your lights.
