I'll start by saying I read the book which prompted me to see this movie. I read an article about the making of the film and that it was "rushed" to get it on t.v. This is a shame. While it does seem rushed and some important parts of the book were actually changed for unknown reasons, this was a compelling movie. There were a number of moments in which the lead, Poppy Montgomery) had an uncanny likeness to Marilyn Monroe and I couldn't help but think how difficult of a role this must have been. There were a numbers of potentially excellent performances by supporting actors (Patrick Dempsey, Ann Margaret, Patricia Richardson), however, they weren't fully developed as they were in the book. This movie really should have been an 8 hour mini-series. Having said all that, I think it is Marilyn Monroe fans and early Hollywood critics that would enjoy this mostly. The book explains everything much more thoroughly and although it is a fictional account of the star's life, it is provocative and disturbing at times -- the subject that stays with you for awhile.
