Inspired Comic Nonsense!
This program is simply hilarious. I can’t believe that it was canceled after only thirteen episodes. I am a huge fan of Australian shows designed for older children and teens. I came across a description of a Dead Gorgeous, which was apparently never shown here in the US. When I learned that it was available on Australian DVD, I decided to buy a copy. That was a very wise decision. The humor in these episodes is sometimes slapstick, and sometimes subtle, but, either way, it is constant.
Dead Gorgeous is the story of three very different (but also very loving and loyal) sisters who were killed in a freak carriage accident in the mid-19th century. Upon appeal by the eldest sister (and a century and a half or so of ghostly bureaucratic machinations, they were permitted to return to life and finish their earthly existence. But though alive again, they are still ghosts, and retain some ghostly powers, such as going through walls. (They are living ghosts, and appear as ordinary people to the living; the show also features some dead ghosts, who are invisible to the living). The oldest sister (about 16) is boy crazy and rather unserious. The second sister (about 14) has the juiciest role, as she has the most difficulty adapting to the modern world. One of the funniest episodes has her wearing ridiculous granny clothes to basketball tryouts, in order to avoid scandalous revealing gym ware. The youngest sister (about 12) adapts to the modern world much more easily than her sisters, and quickly learns the ropes of her new life. And yet, paradoxically, she also seems to mourn the past the most of the trio.
Anyway, I recommend this highly. If you are anything like me, you will be disappointed when the series is over after only thirteen half hour episodes.
