About
I have loved hot rods and original Model A s since the 60s. I also collect antique and vintage typewriters, and rubber toy cars, trucks, airplanes, and baseball players. While a boy in Germany, I began my lifelong joy in collecting Marklin HO trains.

The Little Red Kombi
What is really great about this Hotwheels VW bus is that, well, it's a Hotwheels VW bus! This one is but one of several I have and I will soon add the white, green, teal, woody, and orange examples. There are custom cars based on the Kombi as well. As is clearly seen, the graphics are stunning and the body colors are bright and support the graphics well. Not all have this pattern so a Kombi collection isn't just more of the same from bus to bus. The wheels are wicked but the simple front end is a bit of a surprise. The interiors are, well, beyond dull. But this has to be a dream bus for customizers. You should be prepared to get two of each so that you can have one on the card and one loose. They are that much fun!

Kinsmart VW Beetles
Just as with others I have previously reviewed, this little gem has splendid, deep, shining paint on its metal body (paint is either solid, like this one, or two-tone with white door panels; These also are available in green, yellow, blue, and pink pastels with added "Hippy" graphics.). Kinsmart has first-rate chrome (the headlights and tail lights are jeweled), a good interior, and fine tires with accurate hubcaps below on a black plastic base. Customizers: The base is held on by a single screw! The pull-back can be a challenge when putting them on a shelf for display as the least encouragement sees them scooting off -- not racing-fast, but very fun even for an adult. Made in China as one is beginning to expect from quality this exceptional. I have them all now and am looking for more body styles for this delightful VW collection.

Welcome to the world of vintage & antique rubber toys!
This is a well-made, large format paperback collector guide with company histories and suggested values for the major brands of rubber and vinyl toys made in the USA between 1935 and 1956. Some others from South American and Europe also are included. There are large, clear photographs and supporting text to acquaint you with or identify cars, trucks, boats, trains, planes, tractors, farm implements, and figures. It is a feast for the eyes! I have bought two copies (plus one for my aunt) and I bet you will, too, if you fall under the spell of these great toys. David Leopard has given us an invaluable resource and endless hours of entertainment in this wonderful book.
2016 UPDATE!
I now have seven copies of this wonderful guide. I would probably have more but they are getting hard to come by. I have added many dozens of these little gems to my collection (and five not-so-little Duravits), and have learned quite a bit since writing this review in 2009. Yet, I still refer to Dave's guide several times every week. It remains the Gold Standard, and is worth buying even if you don't collect.
