Behringer – X18

Amazingly versatile compact digital mixer

Unbelievable amount of kit in a small package! I was actually looking more for the rackmount XR18 version of this excellent piece of equipment, but having now had this for a short while, I'm glad that I ended up with the desktop format X18 version instead. I particularly like the fact that it has a convenient parking place for a control tablet, and have since acquired a carefully chosen 12" tablet that fits like a glove. I'm also particularly impressed with the quality of construction. The casing is rock solid steel and the whole thing feels very sturdy. It weighs more than you expect. Choice and positioning of the input and output sockets is good, and I particularly like having XLR/jack combo sockets on all the main inputs, as this gives maximum flexibility. The phono pair for the aux input also makes life easy as this is ideally suited for use with a playback device for background music. Having downloaded the X-Air edit app from the Behringer website, I found this very easy to get to grips with and amazing in terms of the level of control available for the X18. Really impressed. Overall, the X18 is a stunning piece of kit, fabulous value for money and represents a massive step up from humping around a big analogue desk, plus a rack loaded with FX units all rigged up with zillions of patch cables.

Good quality stereo jacks at an excellent price

These standard size 6.3mm stereo jacks are robust, nice quality items with a decent finish. Their general design is similar to the well known Neutrik branded jacks. Generously sized, well spaced solder tags for ease of cable makeup. Good, strong, collet style cable strain relief makes for a very reliable end result. Exceptionally good value. Recommended.

Excellent value. Easy to use. Works as intended.

This a a neat product and works as intended. Especially good value for money. The voice call quality via the Bluetooth hanset is excellent for both listening and talking. Pairing the handset with my phone was a doddle. If you plug the dock into a USB port on your PC, this will eliminate the need to use the included mains charger. A suitable USB cable is also included. When the phone is then placed in the dock, not only is it automatically charged, but the phone automatically establishes a data connection to your PC (provided you've configured your phone to do so). Only reason for giving it 4 stars, rather than 5 stars, is that the phone's connector within the dock is a USB Micro type. Whilst this works fine and is exactly as advertised, being the correct type for a Galaxy S2, S3, or similar, it needs a USB Micro to USB C type adapter in order to dock a newer style of Galaxy (or other similar type of smartphone). To get round this, I've added a suitable adapter and this now makes it possible to dock a later style phone. All works well, but the need for an adapter makes it just a little clumsier to dock/undock the phone and makes it sit a bit higher up in the dock than it otherwise would.. If your phone uses a USB Micro style connector you will not have this issue and the product will work exactly as intended. Recommended.
