A Map is Worth 2000 Words
All the books in this series are an excellent study in the ebbs and flows of a battle, the maps making it easy to follow and experience the action and movement of each regiment, brigade, and division, and offering a very clear and memorable impression of the battle as a whole. The text is easy to follow and compliments the maps to form a uniquely insightful and informative narrative on warfare during this conflict. Essential reading for anyone who has an interest in the Civil War and would like a detailed, step by step account of a battle. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

Indispensible 1861 Material
Usually treated with a sentence or two in other works, this detailed study of the lead up and the battle itself is a treasure of previously neglected facts. So important in understanding the very nature of the difficulties facing both sides in 1861 at a whole, it is also the perfect introduction to the peninsula campaign that follows. A wonderful companion book to 'Yorktown's Civil War Siege' from the same series (Civil War Sesquicentennial Series). Buy both works and immense yourself in an orgy of fascinating historical data.
