J305 FET

Good quiet FET. IDSS ranges from 4mA to 20mA. Somewhat wider than on the datasheet. In order to match pairs you need to buy 20+.

Good sound quality, flat response

Used this to compare frequency response of different mics I have built. Relatively flat frequency response. Self noise is worse than my Rode M5, but that is likely due to the internal FET in the capsule. You could change the capsule but sacrifice the flatness of the response. However recording my piano it's actually quite a nice omnidirectional mic. Doesn't have a calibrated frequency response chart. Feels solid.

Good build quality and sound

Solid body. Good xlr connector. Through hole components. Better quality coupling capacitors than MXL603S. Better biasing of the FET amplifier means better high SPL handling. Comes with BOTH omni and cardioid capsules. Cardioid capsule has slotted opening giving a bit of HF boost. Omni capsule simply has a gauze opening and is flatter in response. Input capacitor appears to be a polystyrene, impressive at this price point. Comes with the usual clip and foam windshield but also a 5 to 3 eighth inch adaptor. Very good value and also moddable if desired.
