Inspiration to Make the Rosary Come Alive
1 of 1 found this helpful I think I'm probably like a lot of Catholics who pray the rosary daily. We often get the feeling that it's become too rote, and we're not getting much out of it. Father Peyton's book hits the spot in rejuvenating this ancient prayer, tying the mysteries to Scripture, and suggeting ways to apply the mysteries to our lives. I don't use it every time I pray the rosary, but even using it ocassionally really boosts my prayer life.

Great pocket camera for the techno-nerd
1 of 1 found this helpful I've had this camera for about 2 weeks, and have yet to test out every function, but what I have experienced, I like very, very much. I am a long-time film SLR advanced amateur. I have a Panasonic FZ-20, which I still use extensively. But I wanted something to put in my pocket which had a substantial zoom and took excellent quality shots. After considerable research, I settled on the FujiFilm F70EXR. The one drawback I've noted is that there's a considerable learning curve, since there are so many shooting modes, but for us nerds, that's a plus, since we like to tinker with these things. The Pro-Focus mode which throws the background out of focus to deliver great portraits really works, but I have run into situations where the camera tells me that it can't perform the desired function. The Pro Low-Light mode works well too, snapping four shots in rapid succession, and merging them into one 5MP picture. The Natural/Flash mode is one I've used several times, when I wonder if available light or flash would produce a better result. This mode takes one of each in rapid succession. The movie mode is good and meets my needs, though it's not HD, and would probably not please the video enthusiast. You can zoom while shooting video, but the zoom is very rapid, and it needs to refocus. In summary, I have gotten some really fine quality shots with this camera, the price I paid was small ($219), and it continues to be a lot of fun.

John Paul the Great, or Noonan the Great?
This is surely not any attempt at documenting the objective facts of John Paul's papacy. It's more like a collection of sometimes inimate observations of the great pope by Noonan. It's really almost as much about the spirituality of Peggy Noonan as it is about John Paul. A real highlight is the chapter on the pope's first visit to Poland after his election, and the hand he had in bringing down the Soviet empire, especially from the perspective of Noonan, a Reagan administration insider. Then we have Peggy's anecdotes about her prayer life with the rosary. A bit off the point. Altogether, I found this a very light treatment of John Paul's papacy, and pleasant casual listening. And to be honest, while driving I don't need something I need to cogitate about too hard.
