Mirror glass was too big.
The new mirror glass was too big to stick it directly onto the old glass because of a rubber moulding that goes around the old mirror. Fortunately, the rubber moulding was removable. I took it off and was able to pull out the old mirror and put the new mirror in it's place. So it worked out for me. But that's really not how it's supposed to work. The replacement glass should have been smaller so it could have been stuck directly onto the old glass.
