Great camera for the money
The D7000 is the bottom of the top in Nikon DSLR. If you're looking at a high end 'consumer grade' Nikon DSLR, spend a tiny bit more and move up to the D7000 which is considered to be a Mid to Professional grade.
The biggest advantage over consumer grade cameras is it is the cheapest camera that has a in body AF motor so you can use AF lenses that don't have motors in the lenses, or use the newer AF-S lenses that do have motors included.
You can use D or G lenses as well.
It's really the bridge between older and newer technologies, and is a GREAT starter point if you want a little more than what the lower end/consumer grade cameras offer.
