We don't need no stinking vampires...

I was looking for a science fiction story about an alien invasion of the Earth. Hard core science fiction. I was looking for lots of fighting, combat, and higher technology. Instead what I got was a cross between War of the Worlds and Twilight. Humanity was saved by vampires no less. Sorry, but I'm not interested in vampires.
