    Excelent document of T.Rextacey
Filmed in 71-72 Born to Boogie was shot by ex-Beatle Ringo Starr with an eye for capturing the massive hysteria that surrounded the band at the time, the first time since the beatles such hysteria existed. Marc Bolan was never one to make art for arts sake, anything he did had to be on a grand scale and this film is the logical extention of that principle. The thing that makes it all worthwhile is that even at his most egotistical he always had a strong sense of Irony and of the absurd. In fact most Bolan fans (typically fiercly loyal) find his abandonment of self doubt and artistic conflict with success strangely liberating. The point being that if you like T.Rex you won't be dissapointed with born to boogie. Technically it is first rate, shot on film with multiple cameras it really is at the top of the heap in terms of quality for live performances of 60's and 70's music that has found its way onto shelves since DVDs arrived. All the well known songs are there perfromed live to great effect as well as a few really cool accoustic numbers that hail back to his hippy folk roots. But the really memorable moments are the ones that incorperate elements of English whimsey, fantasy and surrealism. Paticularly an extended sequence shot in John Lennon's back yard that takes up where the Madhatters tea party from Alice in Wonderland leaves off. A young Elton john joins in for a really memorable version of children of the revolution, and there are little ad libbed bits here and there that demonstrate how much fun everyone must have been having. Really it comes down to if you are a T.Rex fan or not, because if you are you will be far from dissapointed and really it is true to say that 'Born to Boogie is an essential part of any T.rex collection.
