Z Scale-Marklin 8182 Starter Set DB 0-6-0 Steam Loco-4 Cars-Transformer-Track
09 August 2016
Incredible scale and system but with a few quirks
Marklin is the undisputed king of the Z Scale train scene with MTL and Japanese company Pro Z rounding out the lot for this obscure, yet so charming scale. The Marklin 8182 Starter set is a solid way to get into Z Scale trains but be warned, it is VERY expensive especially for Marklin products. The build quality of the set is outstanding for the locomotive and cars, however the tracks are fragile and often the track clips (the small clips that bind the tracks together) eventually fall off with repeated coupling and uncoupling so if you intend to use this set often, I suggest you make it permanent on a board with good scenery. Clips are difficult to find and are often frustrating to place snugly onto the tracks. The transformer is also of excellent build quality and quite heavy and sturdy and functions well for controlling the locomotive. Would I recommend this system to everyone? Absolutely not!!! The reason is that for the most part, although it is tiny and charming, children would have a hard time handling the tiny cars and the parts such as the wheels, axles, and other small parts could potentially fall off and present a choking hazard, the instructions even warn that the set is not for children under 10 years old. So if you are looking for a set for children, the larger HO scale is much better as it is not only cheaper, but the bigger cars and track reduce the choking hazard. However I do recommend it for adults who either want to get into the hobby but have no space since this train can have a beautiful scene and track and take up no more than a business sized briefcase, or simply want a solid collectible whose value seems to only increase as the years go by. But again, the price is high for the available sets averaging 300 dollars and up for new sets, but you can occasionally find a bargain set for much lower and MTL cars are much cheaper despite being slightly less detailed and are compatible with the Marklin Z Scale system. So if you really want to get into the Z Scale hobby, it is a good one and really is well worth the money and effort to have a system that is not only small, but can grow over time and with a good budget, can really be a conversation piece.
Mortal Kombat (Sony PlayStation PS Vita, 2012)
07 August 2018
A tired franchise attempt on an otherwise excellent handheld.
Mortal Kombat for the PS Vita while being the traditional fighting genre that started it all, tends to fall a bit short on this system due to the fact that 1. It is pretty much the same game graphically as the XBOX 360 version sans a few bits here and there (game publishers choice of omissions) and plays in a similar manner so if you already have an XBOX 360 there is no reason to own this game. 2. The price is RIDICULOUS!!! As many are aware, the PS Vita was discontinued in 2016 and with that said, it was assumed that unsold stock at retailers would steadily decline in price until sold. That is NOT the case with Vita, Sony seems to have a mind of its own when it comes to pricing and thus the Vita equivalent of the XBOX 360 Mortal Kombat is still high often 20 dollars and up used, while the XBOX version can be had for as little as 5 dollars with 10 dollars being an average with box and manual. In conclusion, save your money and go for console versions, they are cheaper and offer more content and unless you are nostalgic, there are better games for the Vita.

A good idea for the Nintendo DS series, but falls short of the mark.
When I received the Nintendo DS Browser for the Nintendo DS Lite, I was rather skeptical about a browser being able to run on Nintendo's more budget oriented DS portable. After unpacking the browser which be warned takes up BOTH your Nintendo DS Lite slots, (cartridge and gameboy advance port) this is due to the fact the Nintendo DS Lite does not have the memory necessary to facilitate a browser. Setup is rather easy and straightforward on the Nintendo DS Lite, but since this browser was issued in 2007, it does not support the more current WPA-PSK security protocols, it only supports the 10 key enabled WEP protocol, so if your router does not support WEP, then you might as well pack it in at this point. That alone is rather discouraging considering any good browser should have the ability to be upgraded to current security standards. The Opera derived browsing system of this version is not able to be upgraded, and leaves the user wondering why bother to install a browser in this system at all? (an afterthought perhaps Nintendo?) In its defense, Nintendo does include a rather feature rich browser with the use of its touchpad keyboard (a bit cranky with some characters) and common endings like .com .gov .net so it makes using a URL a bit easier. Its graphics display is rather limited, but does make some browsing and web based email available where none would have been available before. Also it allows for switching between screens to get the best view of a webpage and touch control to scroll. But this is where this browser truly fails! Alright you install a browser for the Nintendo DS Lite, but due to the fact both ports are used to run the browser, you would never be able to download games, or video, or any content from the Nintendo DS Store, so what really is the functionality of this browser? With the exception of maybe simple net surfing, or maybe checking your email, there is absolutely no reason to own this browser. You would be better served by either upgrading to the Nintendo DSi XL or even the 3DSi, either of which offer you the opportunity to download content and games through their store and even Netflix can be watched through the Nintendo 3DSi. So in closing, save your money. This dog of a browser is not only extremely outdated, but makes you wonder why did Big N even think about putting a browser on this machine? It is entirely useless for downloading content off the net and it also takes up all your cartridge space available on your DS Lite. The Nintendo DS-Lite is great for the player who wants DS games and to be able to play Gameboy Advance games, but if your looking for online downloads or even watching Netflix, this system is not up to the task, and this browser certainly could have been designed better, say intergrating the memory and program into a single cartrige for the Gameboy Advance slot. The Nintendo DS-Lite is a great system for a great price, but putting the Opera derived Nintendo DS-Lite browser is akin to putting a 12 cylinder in a Corvette, unnecessary and actually would probably just drag down the performance and add weight and lower mileage. Just avoid this dog and either upgrade, or use your browser on your PC.
