Sony Cybershot DSC-R1 The best camera so far!
3 of 4 found this helpful The R1 is in a league by itself due to it's large sensor and fixed lens. All other fixed lens cameras use the smaller sensors which are prone to grainy details in some photos. The camera has some drawbacks but photography is all about trade-offs. The R1 has live preview which is rare for a large sensor camera. (Only the Olympus E330 has such a design)
The controls are very well laid out and easy to use while looking through the view finder. ISO, EV, Flash, Shutter speed and aperture are all easily selected. The strength of the R1 is landscape and portrait photography. I wouldn't suggest you use it for sports or other fast action shots where you need a burst of several shots at once.
The lens alone is worth the price of the camera. To get the 24mm, 2.8 lens on another camera you will have to spend above $2,000. I got an excellent used R1 for $725 including external flash and memory sticks worth three hundred dollars. It is clearly the best deal out there is it fits your needs.
I already owned two Sony F828 cameras and loved their style and function, but I wanted something with a larger sensor and more creative control.
I may end up buying a Nikon D80 some time in the near future, but for the price of a nice lens I have a great camera that can be a primary or back-up.
I highly recommend it.

Best compact camera I've used
5 of 5 found this helpful When I bought my first P200 back in 2005, I bought it for a trip to NYC. The pictures I took were not only awesome but the camera easily fit into my pocket. The start up is almost instant. Unlike many compacts today, it does have manual controls. You can set the shutter speed and choose between two apertures. The flash is just a little better than most small cameras so you will get indoor shots that you would otherwise miss.
After buying a Sony T100 and using it for a while, I sold it and bought another P200. While Sony is trying to keep up with the pack and add pixels and features, like other manufacturers, they are trading off photo quality. Pixels sell cameras, but there is just so much you can do with the small sensors.
The P200 gets a Highly Recommended at DPreview, which is rare for a compact. This camera can be used by anyone in the family. The photos are stunning and sharp.
The only things I would suggest are, be sure to hold it steady when you depress the shutter. The lens is on the extreme left side which makes camera movement exagerated. Also, the camera defaults to 1/40 of a second shutter speed in Auto. I usually set it to 1/50 or higher depending on the light available.
What does it compare to? I would rate it along side the Canon SD1000, SD850 or SD870 (which has a 28mm lens). But for the current price, you just can't beat the P200.

Still the best way to deal with a weak cell signal
Tho they don't make this model anymore, nothing works as well. Internet Calling never in our house but the Microcell is great. This is my second one. Lightning strikes are bad for them even with a surge protector.
It is easier now to set up then when they first came out.
