Not holding a charge any better than 6 year old battery

As a new Samsung brand battery I expected it to hold its charge longer than my original 6 year old battery. This is why I bought it. Compaired to the original battery, it is not compleately flat, but has a slight bulge along one side, I dont know what this means, but i would expect it to be completly flat on both sides, maybe the bulge is a sign the battery is compromised. I will now be seeking a replacement or refund. My phone is not connected to the internet unless I activate it, also no GPS turned on, and no other battery draining apps are on, I only use the phone for calls & sms, and very rarely connect to the internet.
