Keepin' it old school
Scrapbooking has come a long way in the last few years, and this book comes from the good old days when scrappers made most of their stuff instead of just buying it at craft stores. The samples are simple enough for anyone to follow. The beginning scrapper can begin by copying what is given in the book and then move on to more advanced projects. If you're looking for today's flashy, highly detailed, and EXPENSIVE embellishments, they aren't in this book. A beginner can use the book to get started. Materials using this method will not require a large investment; so if a person decides not to stay with scrapbooking, there wasn't a lot of money lost. If the beginner decides to advance, Sandi Genovese have many other wonderful books on the market.

Kurt and Nick at Their Best
Mother Night is one of Kurt Vonnegut's best books. Personally, it's my favorite. This film, starring Nick Nolte, totally did the author's book justice. Nolte gave the best performance of his career, but I don't think he was recognized for it at all. This is a story about everything in a way - love, guilt, pretense, politics, war, hope, hopelessness - and it packs a mighty wallop. It's not a movie for the faint of heart. Kurt Vonnegut, a WWII veteran who survived the bombing of Dresden, has a brief appearance in one street scene; his face shows the mixture of swirling emotions a war veteran experiences every waking minute of every day for the remainder of his/her life. It's a film for anyone interested in the history of Nazi Germany, romance and the difficulties it often brings with it, or the dramatic genre. As an English teacher, I think it's perfect to show in in the classroom because of its close similarities to the original and its powerful theme; however, there is a flash of breasts that will send some parents and administrators of middle and high schools into a Puritan frenzy. Mother Night is movie that was unfairly overlooked when it premiered in theaters. It is, I believe, a treasure that's worth discovering.
