A good stepping stone for getting into DSLR's from point-and-shoots.
It's not a perfect camera, but for what I need it for it's great for my needs. I enjoy the 720p AVCHD movie mode and low light capture is amazing for this camera's price point. If you're more for the zoom I would spend a little more and go for the DMC-FZ40. It's basically the same camera, with a lot better zoom capabilities and a few button layout changes.

If you're looking for a camera for your PHT 101 class, this is for you.
This is the perfect camera for a beginning photography student who needs a 35mm fully-manual SLR. Once you spend a good 5-10mins getting accustomed to the features and controls everything is easy to understand and operate, but I'm giving it 3 stars in "Ease of use" because there are so many more newer 35mm SLR cameras where really you just point-and-shoot with a lot of automatic features.

This is a great starting DSLR for the serious amateur taking photo classes.
This is a great starting DSLR for the serious amateur taking photo classes. If you already have a T2/T2i/T3/T3i then I would recommend upgrading to the 7D next instead of the 60D, the price doesn't justify the marginal differences between the low-end bodies and the 60D.
