Kenny Barron & Dave Holland, Kenny Barron - Art of Conversation [New CD] Holland
    19 April 2019
    Brilliance by bass and piano
I love this album. By the time I discovered pianist Kenny Barron he already had had a long career. I became aware of him in a Ron Carter trio. His playing inspired me to seek out more, and I found this album of duets with the bassist Dave Holland. The music is immaculate, the rapport between the pair telepathic, the sounds soar and heal.
Otis Spann - Otis Spann: From the Archives [New CD] Manufactured On Demand
    30 September 2019
    Giant of the blues
Otis Spann was Muddy Waters's piano player through Muddy's golden age from the early 1950s through the mid-60s. His contribution to the music of Muddy Waters was substantial, but he also played on other Chicago music, including the groundbreaking work of Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley. Recently I read of Spann being described as underrated. By whom? The man was a giant, with an immediately recognisable sound, and he had a great vocal style too. Check out his work with Buddy Guy on the Vanguard album A Man And The Blues, especially One Room Country Shack. Brilliant.
    VAN MORRISON-THE PHILOSOPHER'S STONE-2 CD SET + BOOKLET-AUSTRALIA-1998
    18 June 2020
    Lost but not forgotten
The double album collects material Van Morrison recorded but left off albums of the early to mid 1970s. Now we have access to some fine music, most of which would have fitted easily into his output of the day. A fan of some albums as Too Late To Stop Now, for instance, should be well pleased.
