Revell 1/110 Star Wars Tie Fighter # 03605
23 February 2017
Ideal for decent diorama
After already building one of these TIE models (found the kit in HobbyCraft), I've bought this second one to kitbash and scratch build a Darth X1 TIE using the main body cockpit as the basis for the X1, and planning on using Plasticard + 3D printed parts to create correct scale. The extra wing foils will help out too create the 2nd TIE that got shot by Han in the trench run scene. Only real downside to this kit and the X-Wing & Darth X1 Tie is that all the scales are different so making a good scale diorama is more difficult straight out the box However, get some 1mm SMD leds, some 0.5mm plastic coated copper and your soldering iron out you can light up one of these pretty easily, and the detail of the kit is great compared to earlier AMT / ERTL kits. Goes together well, sprays nice (Halfords primer good for this), and the size is bigger than expected (but not too big to take up loads of room)

Sharp AQUOS BD-HP21H... a consumer's point of view
After waiting for what seemed like an eternity before owning the Sharp Aquos Blu-ray player (writing this when Panasonic have just advertised the first home BluRay recorder, July 2009), I now finally have one of these superb entertainment models. Getting a 2nd hand unit did not deter me, since the BD-HP21H models are still relatively new. This unit works seemlessly with the Sharp Aquos LCD 42in TV, and also the 5.1 output via the optical socket plays perfectly through a 3rd party surround sound setup. General setup took a few minutes, simple plug & play (even for the novice who is new-to-the-technology). However, you may need to ensure that the unit's software is up-to-date I would advise getting the firmware (the program that configures the unit's onboard memory) upgraded by visiting the manufacturer's website. Reason for this was that before my upgrade "Quantum of Solice" would not play correctly (disc light confirmed reading but it would not continue). But... all is not lost. With the firmware download you get the firmware file, version update details plus a 'how to' Adobe PDF guide. You will need a USB memory stick formatted to FAT32 format(128mb memory stick or larger would cater for this). Then simple copy the file from PC / Mac to the stick, take the stick out of the PC/Mac, turn off the BluRay player, plug in the USB, turn on BluRay, go to setup, then software update and the machine will do the rest - there is a couple of confirmation screens ("do you want to upgrade? yes/no"), and after a couple of minutes the progress bar will tell you when upgraded. Then try and play the disc again. The manual that is provided does not explain about the upgrade, but the "Quantum of Solice" box included a leaflet explaining about how to go about the upgrade. Hopefully this simple review/guide can help out others who do not know of upgrades/firmwares/reasons behind faults that may not be easily identified. I would guess that after the new versions come out that the manuals will include how to upgrade the unit. This is the only thing that would make some people feel that they have bought an 'out of date' unit in this super-fast-changing-everyday world we live in. If you know your stuff though... The picture quality is incredible. I've seen HD quality before, but this s really why I bought my TV, and the BluRay compliments it perfectly. The player does seem to take it's time on playback compared to DVD, but I'm guessing that this is down to more content on the disc (BluRays can be 10 times the storage capacity of DVD, so makes sense). The remote control also works really well with the TV and BluRay, no issues there. The unit itself looks smooth & sleek, and with the option for LED display on or off helps either highlight or hide away the unit... great if you don't like too much distractions. Setting up is a breeze, but if you try to change a setup during playback, well i's a no go. You have to stop the disc, edit your settings then restart the disc (no pick-up-from-where-you-were option, or none I can find yet..) All in all, it's one hell of a machine, bringing the cinema quality home the way it should be. I'd seriously adivse getting one, especially if you already own a FullHD Sharp Aquos TV... a match made in digital heaven..

Zotac NVidia gtx 970 4gb PCI Express Graphics Card - perfect condition

GTX 970 - 4K? Oh yes!
The GTX 970 is one hell of a card. Upgrading from a GTX650 to gain the HDMI2 socket (@ 60Hz), this card does a great deal of graphic work at an amazing price. Feeling dubious about gaming with 1 card knowing that you can SLI for true hardcore gaming, I decided to go for this as an entry point - and wow I'm impressed! Star Wars Battlefront on a 4kTV is an absolute eye watering moment. The amount of power in this card alone is a seriously great investment (also do 3D work, graphic design and music production) - 2 or 3 screen? ditch that, so... 2000's... 4k desktop is where it's totally at, and the GTX970 surpasses my expectations greatly. Installing is a cinch, getting the drivers installed are easy, and GeForce Experience just pairs up superbly as you would want / expect. No more nit-picking tweaks to get things right, NVIDIA platform really do care and make the experience a pleasure and not a hinderance. Running on a Win7x64 with the GTX970 4Gb model, 16Gb ram (yes pretty low but does the job), i5-3570k processor, Asus P8Z77-V-LX (need all those PCI legacy style slots!), you can't go wrong with this. Can see why NVIDIA are the leaders here. Don't just take my word for it, go get one now
