Seagate Exos 7E2000 ST2000NX0253 - hard drive - 2 TB - SATA 6Gb/s

Nice SATA enterprise mass storage in 2.5" form factor
Some low end servers do not take SAS hard drives. This is when to use this one, enterprise grade SATA 2.5" drive. Read and write speed is 140 MB/s which is not a lot compared to SSD, but it is 2x cheaper per GB, and no worries about how long the data can be kept. If you did not know, enterprise SSD are only really rated for 2 weeks of reliable storage. After that, you are supposed to scrub the bits (like the way ZFS does it in Solaris) or risk silent data corruption down the road.
HP Mellanox 670760-B23 7M InfiniBand FDR Fiber Optical Cable Quad SFF QSFP

Little known replacement for bulky copper cables
This cable is used to connect servers or workstations to each other, or to an Infiniband switch. It is made by Mellanox, the largest maker of Infiniband products in the world. It supports the fastest speed currently available, called FDR or fourteen-data rate. The raw data rate is 56 Gbit/s, and with the right Infiniband adapter you can get data transfer rate up to 6.8 GBytes/s. This is way bigger than any Ethernet technology can currently offer. I like the optical cables because they are much thinner and lighter than the equivalent copper cables. If you have a bundle of a dozen cables, copper cables are too heavy and difficult to work with. This optical cable is about 4 mm in diameter, and a bundle of even a hundred of them is rather light. Few of us can afford to buy this cable new (it costs over $300) but this used cable is indeed affordable, and offers unbelievable throughput and microsecond latency.

awesome enterprise AIX workstation
This is a high-end workstation introduced by IBM in Oct 2005, and based on POWER5+ processor. The unit I bought was manufactured in Feb 2007. This model has a 2.1 GHz processor with 36MB of L3 cache which supports SMT (simultaneous multithreading) so it appears to the system as dual-core processor. It can run IBM AIX or Linux for POWER operating systems. The design has been improved since Intellistation 9111-285 (based on POWER4) I used previously in that the noise level has been greatly reduced, which is important if you are using it as a desk-side system. This is a great workstation for learning AIX, and doing software development and testing on AIX, because it features the same architecture as pSeries servers. This system supports a up to 32GB of RAM, and up to 1.2TB of disk storage. There are lots of expansion slots, and options that can be installed. A second SCSI backplane can be added to support 8 U-320 hard drives. A RAID enablement card can be installed to support RAID-0,5,10. I have also added a tape drive. There are four gigabit Ethernet ports built-in. Overall this is an awesome enterprise workstation at an amazing price, and I am very happy with it.
