Intel Core i5 10400F 2.9GHz Hexa Core LGA1200 CPU

Bargain Performance
Didn't even consider Intel last year when looking to upgrade from my i7-4770k and kept waiting for the then well-priced ryzens to come back in stock. Partly down to Intel's mean spirited attitude and faster memory only being usable with z-series mobos. However, a failing mobo forced me to upgrade now. I have absolutely no regrets whatsoever. Pc largely used for AAA gaming and photo processing and this i5 is more than fast enough for both. So far, it hasn't even broken a sweat and in a way I'm glad I haven't been able to upgrade my gtx 1660 as my *total* power draw at the wall under load is about 200w which means the pooter runs quiet. I think you'd have to spend an awful lot more for a significant improvement in performance and then you'd be looking at much more power hungry chips. At the time of writing, my i5-10400f + 16gb ram cost the same as a comparable but not-in-stock ryzen 5 3600x. Hell, it costs less than a used i7-4770k... No, neither the chip nor ram can be overclocked and fastest usable ram is 2666mhz but this really doesn't hurt as much as you might think but if you're thinking of getting this chip, consider getting same price 3000mhz ram and a decent b460 board (not expensive now) because they'll support and power 10th gen i7 and i9s - just in case the gear itch strikes a bit further down the road. Tbh though, next thing really is ddr5 and that would mean complete platform change anyway. Really pleased with my i5 and very pleased about how little leccy it uses. Pictured is MSI Mortar and a tower cooler with a fan that hasn't yet spun-up over 25% Also pictured is complete build because not all gaming pcs have led lighting :)
FiiO BTA30 PRO Wireless Bluetooth 5.0 Long Range Transmitter/Receiver

Versatile, top-notch audio for sensible money
Bluetooth transceiver + dac that exceeded my expectations. It's tiny, very well made and sounds amazing through my old Teac A-H500i amp to ancient - but lovely - JPW speakers and Ath ES7 headphones (I don't like over-ear cans so can't compare). Sources: Qobuz via optical and usb from W10 pc and via Bluetooth ldac from Samsung S21 and UAPP. Also tested with Amazon Music HD^ + I also tested the other codecs, even sbc sounded good but unsurprisingly, ldac 990kbps won. The dac can be bypassed but tbh it's now replacing my old dedicated dac + is small enough so that velcroed to the back of one speaker, it's invisible. The sound is open and detailed without any harshness and is weighty without being lethargic or muddy. Male or female vocals...? ...testing it turned into 7hrs of listening fun :D Caveat: my amp adds just a tiny touch of warmth, it's subtle but one of the many reasons I'm still using that '97 amp in '22. The sort of dacs that would make it worth bypassing the on-board are a long way out of my budget. I don't feel I'm missing out at all though - this is fab. Pairing is super fast, I've experienced no issues with drop-out. Range for reliable ldac 990kbps with S21 is restricted to er, the same apartment... I've just tested, expecting it to falter with phone in the next room but it made it to the back bedroom fine with no drop-out, or change in ldac status displayed on phone or device - this a fairly radio-quiet environment though, with only a handful of wifi devices on the go, so ymmv. There's a Fiio android (guessing iOS too?) app that can manage the device - ignore the negative reviews, not sure what they expected, basically it's just a handy, straightforward means of changing or locking gain and choosing bluetooth codecs or dac input source. Dac or bluetooth mode selection is done by a physical switch on the front of the device - guessing this isolates the circuits, certainly there's no noise or hum. There are lots of usb dacs, there are lots of Bluetooth transceivers but not many of both and this comes too with rca-out, opt-in, opt-out, usb-in* coax-in/out and a well implemented Sabre chip. It's not dirt cheap but it's very definitely not silly money and worth every penny. Very happy customer 9.5/10** *usb-in is also power source, I'm using it just for power because pc isn't on all the time. **It'd be nice to have another port for power-in but guess a powered hub could be used. ^W10 needs some tinkering to play nice with Amazon Music HD and external dacs - worth the effort though. Qobuz more straightforward.
