Quite an education wrapped in FUN!!!
If you love to paint and experiment with creating textures and magical effects with acrylic paint you will truly enjoy this book. It is balanced with technique as well as technical understanding. Concise, to the point and yet loaded with fun. I love the glossary that explains the terms and various mediums that are employed in acrylic painting. It is high quality, spiral bound, super thick hard cover, glossy pages and very well organized to keep it clear and help you launch! Open it to any page and grab a brush and be amazed!

A long slow drink of cool water.
This is not for hard and fast modern speed demons. This is a very sweet, slow walking book thru the days and hours of a very alive, very conscious woman and her gardening-unbeknownst to her at the time-a garden that has became historic and famous. The story about the hummingbird in the storm is beautiful. I love the book. If you're easily bored-you won't like it. But if you love the smell of soil and the murdering of slugs in vigilant protection of your little seedlings-you'll totally get this and appreciate that Ms. Thaxter took the time to write it. I can't figure out how she found the time with all she was doing, gardening, running an inn, entertaining artists and poets..... It is an exact copy of the original so it looks old. Childe Hassam's paintings are yummy.

Beautifully written and captivating
This is a beautifully written book that i want to gobble up- but am making myself slow down and savor the incredibly thoughtful and poignant voice leading me through this land and these peoples lives…. I‘m already ordering more of Lesley Poling-Kempes books.
