'91-'95 Dodge Dakotas
4 of 4 found this helpful If you are out to look for a heavy duty, but small pickup truck, the 1st gen Dodge Dakota is your truck, especially those built between '91-'95. '96 count as a first gen, however they went OBDII, and I believe they lost some of their reliability after that. I like the size, physical shape, the muscle, everything about these trucks, and it shows as I own 2. If there was ever a mechanical issue, they are fairly easy to repair by the driveway mechanic. The Dodge Dakota is one truck where you know what you're getting before you buy it. Oh, and the 4x4's, yeah they don't really get stuck, they'll get you thru the muck and the snow and actually beg for more. The transfer case on these is super strong for such a "light duty" truck, but it really can't be called light duty. Most full size pickups you see are 1/2 tons, and the Dakota is classified as a mid-size which puts it at somewhere between a 1/4 ton and a 1/2 ton. The best truck money can buy is the Dodge Dakota, no doubt in my mind.
