Good, Greyfriars Bobby: The Real Story at Last, Macgregor, Forbes, Book
08 January 2018
Clears up a common misunderstanding. Informative and highly enjoyable.
For anyone who wants a more factual account of the life and times of Greyfriars Bobbie and his master pc John Gray (aka Ould Jock). This is a short but great story and a popular local Edinburgh legend which has been mistold for years. Highly recommended and the definitive factual version.

Gorgeous George CD by Edwyn Collins
It never ceases to amaze me that Edwyn Collins isn't one of the biggest names in alternative rock. Sure, everyone who doesn't live in a cave knows the big hit "(Never met)a girl like you(before)", but there really isn't a bad track on this entire album. To the muso's out there, Edwyn's song writing style is in equal measure, clever, melodic, raucous, restrained but highly effective (in the "less is more" ethos), proving that it's not always what you play but how you play it. Guitarists amongst you should be able to work out songs like "Girl like you" easily (it took me a couple of hours to crack it begining to end), but the nuances and voicings will take a lot longer. Good for developing character in your playing. Several tracks on this album bear more than a passing resemblance to later Iggy Pop melodies, explaining perhaps why the one big hit, "A Girl Like You" is often wrongly ascribed to the great Ig-meister. This said if you like later Iggy offerings, you will not be dissappointed by Edwyns Gorgeous George. Truly under-rated and deserving of a place in anyones CD collection. Give it a try!
