Reading temperature incorrectly

The temperature quickly shoots up to the last calibration mark, even on an open traffic. I don't think the sensor is reading the coolant temperature correctly. However, it does tell my fan to kick in before the gauge reaches the red zone. I have been driving so many cars since 1985, this brand new coolant temperature sensor is the only one that make the gauge go up so quickly and always stay before the last calibration mark.
