2.2x Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon Rebel EOS T3 XT XTI XS XSI T6 300D 400D T3I
    23 March 2018
The only thing this doubles is chromatic aberration
I am not certain what lens this is supposed to be added to. Maybe a fixed length prime lens? But if you have that kind of kit, you wouldn’t be buying this. Specifically, I threw this in front of both a 100-300 zoom, Canon EF, and onto the 18 to 55 kit EF-S lens. I am not sure if there is a defect, but I was unable to focus either lens no matter how close or how far, auto or manual. Chromatic aberration was instantly noticeable in the view finder to the naked eye, and as I said, there was no possibility of focusing. I think in my life I have used a similar product on an older Canon AE and it worked fine, so I guess I just tried to use this wrong. Instead, I bought a $100 Vivitar 7 element 2x teleconverter and that worked perfectly.

Vivitar Series-1 7-Element 2x Tele Converter, Canon EOS Autofocus Mount

    Good for getting close
This 2x 7 element teleconverter works as advertised. You get what you pay for. I wanted to double my telephoto for specific long distance photos. This does that. I am not an expert so I can’t tell you about chromatic this or contrast that. I have a old Canon EOS Rebel XTi, and a 100 to 300 telephoto, as well as a 500 mm mirror lens. This lets be double both, although it significantly limits your aperature and exposure settings. Post processing will be necessary, but you get what you pay for. Compared to the other Vivitar 2.2x device, and 18 dollar front end screw on thing, this worked perfectly. Are you a serious, critical photographer? Go buy a three thousand, or twelve thousand dollar lense. Are you an occasional photographer with photo editing skills? Get this and have fun.
Opteka 500mm HD Telephoto Mirror Lens for Canon EOS EF Digital SLR Camera

Cheap Closeup if you aren’t picky
Its a $100, 500mm mirror lens. Go read the reviews to find out what is good and bad about that. For me, It was clear, crisp and easier to focus that I had expected. The fixed aperature took a little time to work out how to use. Photos initially were washed out and over exposed. I haven’t tried the darkening filters yet, but for $100 bucks, I was very happy. I wasn’t sure if it was going to be a complete rip off. It’s not. It works, you’ll need to learn how to get the most out of it, but if you have a specific need for a smaller form factor telephoto beyond the 200-300 zoom, this works. I also used it with a vivitar 2x. I am not going to to be submitting any photos to Conde Naste Traveller magazine, but I got good closeups with a tripod better than with my zoom.
