    iPhone 2G
Though I'm currently not able to use the iPhone as my work cell phone (my company recently switched to Verizon), I've been experimenting with it at home on a Mac wireless network and whether it might be useful as a message tool versus the more traditional paper posted on cork board. The benefits of the iPhone in this role are instant syncronization with Mobile Me calendars and the ability to use interactive elements e.g. google maps, movie listings, forwarding phone number/address/etc. I also find the ability to take a picture or brief video important for a robust electronic message board. I had tried an iPhone clone for this (at the time I was also using it for both my work and personal cell phone) and while the dual SIM capability was great, it was not as smooth for use as an electronic message board. The down side of the iPhone in this role is, if new, the cost - so a good but used iPhone 2G is the best option. Another downside is the frailty of the phone as compared to an iPod - dI had an iPod Nano that I dropped on rocks, not a problem! Try that with an iPhone. Overall I'm finding the iPhone as the household communication board a good tool with distinct advantages over inevitable clutter and chaos of paper messages and cork boards.

    iPhone 3G, white/16GB
An exceptional mobile device. OS 3.0 has not let me down either, it remains a strong operating system, for it's purpose I think it every bit as robust as it's big brother OS X. The new cut and paste feature has made the iPhone outstanding, anyone working with a lot of mobile information where this function is used will quickly appreciate it. I've found very few problems with the iPhone 3G, despite it being very intolerant of water, usually if you dry it out completely and resist the temptation of turning it on until it is completely dry the iPhone is unstoppable. A lot of people these days are unlocking or jailbreaking iPhones, and that has its pros and cons, of course the number one pro is being able to use the iPhone with any GSM carrier, one of the cons is that not all carriers are as robust as AT&T. It is not unusual to have a strong signal with AT&T but much weaker with another carrier, that is not the iPhone that's an issue using other carriers. None the less, the iPhone can take just about anything you dish out. One thing I do not like about the 3G are the colors and case material, I preferred the aluminum case of the original 2G, I believe that those cases were superior in durability and wish that Apple had constructed the iphone 3G case of a single piece aluminum, or stainless like the iPod Touch.
