The Best Home Studio Recorder
6 of 6 found this helpful This is a great tool for the home studio. So good, in fact I am selling off a lot of my higher end gear. Why? Because it allows me to work so much faster than with my DAW. I like to be ready to record on the fly and the convenience and quality of this unit is pretty amazing!
Is it as high a quality piece as my MOTU gear? No, but its very good. It's quiet and the converters are decent. THe R24 also serves as an interface and DAW controller via USB.
If you really like to edit and tweak then this is not the best all in one solution and you are better off with a DAW and a large monitor, but if you can actually play this is a fantastic unit. The sampler is good, importing files is great and easy. The drum machine (step sequencer) is pretty basic but does allow some nice quantizing but its far from being ideal. I find its best used for scratching out ideas and jamming. The included drum libraries from Big Fish and Peter Erskine are very nice as well.
In summary this is all you need for home recording, if you are serious about doing real music then you would have a budget to be in a studio anyways. Super happy with this unit. I got mine from proaudiostar on ebay and they were a pleasure to deal with.
