    What is prayer?
This is my third book of Yancey that I read in a short period of time. I started with "The Jesus I Never Knew"; second one was - "Reaching for the Invisible God". All of them are unbelievable good. What I like in these books, that author didn't afraid to ask difficult and controversial questions that he is trying to answer. He is very open for readers; this is a very different from other authors who wrote on religious themes. He didn't use his authority that he is only one who knows right answer. His books are so movable. They are pushing readers to think, to look for right answer, to pick up a Bible and search it. In this book about Prayer Philip Yancey is trying to answer the biggest question in Christian life - What is prayer? I never heart any preaching meeting triggered any major outbreak of God. Preaching may occurred during outbreak, but only praying meeting can start revival. Same as happened during Pentecostal praying of twelve apostles or Azusa Street meetings. In this book Mr. Yancey is using a lot of outside sources. Sometimes I'm just amazed how he can do such big research. He even used an old Russian spiritual stories from the book "The Way of a Pilgrim" - Russian spiritual classic about continual praying. He offers a lesson on how prayer empowers us to do good works. Even his conclusions are very controversial to what is preached in churches today. Some of his statements in this book would be unpopular in Christians circles. Another outstanding book from Philip Yancey. If you have spiritual and just regular problems in your life, struggle with doubts, this book is for you.
