  Item was listed as "brand new". Paperwork that came with it said it included already installed batteries with a pull tab to activate them but there were no batteries in the device or in the packaging. Luckily, I had batteries but am disappoint that this is apparently not a new device after all. It does seem to work OK but I'm not sure about giving it as a gift.
