Good All Around Surf Caster
1 of 1 found this helpful Rod is light but strong, and length is long enough for good casting but still solid enough to double as a boat rod. Good parabolic bend in the rod blank. Reel is butter-smooth. No complaints.

Sets a new standard
In the upper mid-tier range (with Shimano Torium, Okuma Metaloid, Penn Fathom) the new Saltist is the best of the bunch. It really does feel like a step up from the Saltist BG from the last few years. Internals mirror the Saltiga for the most part, and it's almost as smooth as its costlier brother. The colorway is the best thing out there, but the side plates scratch just like the BGs did. Overall, for the price, it's the top of its class and I can't recommend it highly enough. The 15 is really narrow, great for jigging.

Great Rod, Especially at this Price
801XH version is deckhand with wrap handle and abalone inlay. Beautiful rod, fishes well at the heavy end of its range. Definitely handles 40lb without problem; plenty of backbone. Great rod for throwing heavier jigs and bait for bigger fish. Seen this particular rod handle fish to 60-80lbs without problem (at least as well as any 8ft rod would).
