Tascam DP-004 Pocketstudio
2 of 2 found this helpful I was impressed with the portability and features of the DP-004. It is an easy to use multitrack recorder, with good condenser microphones built in for times when you don't want to deal with external mic setup. The sound quality is good. It is easy to use and will let you produce a decent demo.
The lack of backlighting on the DP-004 menu screen is a drawback, since not every recording situation will be well lit! Overall, though, I find the DP-004 to be a good value for the capabilities it offers.

Zoom H4 - a good value in a portable digital recorder
Very capable portable recorder, with good editing software (Cubase LE4) included when new. Not the easiest menu system to navigate. Small screen. Can be had for a fairly low price since the introduction of the Zoom H4n, so a pretty good value.
