A good kit
Seems to me at least to be a good kit. Perhaps not the most famous or popular model of the Catalina but it all fitted together really well. Even though I have added working landing lights and motors there was about enough room for a battery pack in the fuselage and an invisible magnetic reed switch to turn them on.
Instructions as always had the bits that were vague or unclear, especially where options were concerned, but overall very happy. Good detailing on the mouldings but the iinstruction sheet showed completely different panel joins which is interesting - Are the instruction drawings for a different variant adapted to suit, are they plain wrong, or is the kit wrong? Answers on a postcard.
Service from the Italian supplier was not bad, but a bit slow in despatching the kit.
You build the kit.Then you photoshop it. You have to don't you?

Best of all I've tried
Over the last 15 years or so I've used all sorts of ballast as my OO layout grew and adapted. Some too light or dark, some too fine and some far too consistent in colour so as to look unnatural. I think this one gives the best most realistic look of all. Decent size granules in various grey . Wish it was cheaper though as sooner or later half of it gets hovered up!

Fair , but.
Not a bad figure. They end up as good as you can paint them. But. Ridiculous price for what it is, and I know it's supposed to be an American but it was roughly double the size/ bulk of the Airfix British pilot.
