A must read to understand the man, his origins and his place in history
I was looking for a book on Copernicus with which I could immerse myself in the period in which he lived and get some understanding of what made him tick. I'd already read something of De Revolutionibus previously but I wanted something that informed me of the man as well as the scientist. If you're of the same mind then you should get this book. The first several chapters set the seen for the period as well as covering ancient Greek systems which culminated in the geocentric model and the Almagest. We're introduced to the scholarly works that would have influenced young Copernicus and eventually are introduced to his early thoughts on the solar system. The major part of the book deals with his revolutionary axioms culminating in De Revolutionibus. Thankfully, the last few chapters also consider how Copernican theory affected those that came after, leading the reader into an appreciation of the work undertaken by Copernicus, Galileo, Brahe and Kepler without which we could possibly have a very different view of the cosmos today. The book covers a lot of detail and I did find that I had to put it down on occasions or re-read parts to avoid being overwhelmed with minutae. Perseverance is a virtue and the reward is a far better understanding of the science as it developed over a very interesting period of history.
Belkin SurgeMaster 8 plug Extension Lead power surge Protector 2 meter F9M820UK2

    Reliable with a modern look.
The Belkin SurgeMaster Extension Lead looks clean & modern. All the sockets work properly without any looseness. The 'Protected' & 'Power' lights are clearly visible. The 2 meter lead is enough to reach where you need it & not so much that you're tripping over an excess of wire. It can be attached to a wall easily & securely (depending on your diy skills). The only problem I've ever had with one was that the power button failed & I couldn't switch it off, however, I'd had that Belkin for just over 20 years & had used it daily, so still great value.

Renapur Leather Balsam 200ml conditioner waterproofer sofas shoes tack car bike

    1st Class Footwear Protection
The product is easy to apply and protects the leather superbly, preventing water from soaking into the leather at all times. It should be reapplied every few months, when the footwear needs a good clean usually. Only a small amount of Renapur is required so the contents of the jar last for in excess of 10 years. Renapur doesn't react with my skin so applying is quite safe.
