Solid camera
If you are coming from another Sony camera you are going to feel right at home. the menu system is better organized than my a6400. I was very pleased with the image quality.

Great upgrade from the HVX 200
1 of 1 found this helpful I bought it to upgrade from the HVX200 and what an upgrade it is.
The viewfinder is sharp and lets you see focus and the focus enhancement feature which put red outlines around whatever is in focus is a big help.
The menu navigation joystick on the side of the camera is much easier to use than the button system on the 200.
The fact that it lets you shoot in PAL is a bonus and might come in handy for shooter traveling to Europe.
And the AVC-intra 100 codec is gives you first rate image quality.
For those who have to shoot extreme long form video, there is an
AVC-intra 50 mode which doubles your shooting time on the P2 card.
The digital zoom at 2X still produces a usable image, at 5X not so much and 10X is completely unusable.
I don't even want to shoot with my HVX 200 anymore but kept it as a second camera.

Great camera, exellent picture quality
4 of 4 found this helpful You will definitely have to spend time learning the intricacies of this camera if you are not an experienced canon shooter. If you've had canon cameras before, no big deal but if you are new to this level of equipment, practice shooting.
Picture quality is very good for stills and video.
As far as video is concerned, the follow focus feature is outstanding.
I adapted a couple of old manual lenses (Leica and Pentax) with adapters available on ebay and that works like a charm. If you get the ones with electronics attached, the camera will give you focus confirmation in the view finder using your old manual lens! Very cool!
The camera does get hot if you use it for video and run it to the 30 minute time limit and switch it on again and run it for another 30 minutes. At some point it just has to cool down.
It was getting hot even running it from an external battery!
Video shooters beware that there is no headphone out, so there is no way to monitor audio directly from the camera.
Naturally, just after I bought the 70D, the 7D mark II came out sporting a headphone out terminal, go figure.
I would have given it 5 stars if it had a headphone output.
