About

I am still in 1958. If i go to a vintage or classic vehicles rally, i dont have to dress up specially - i'm already wearing the requisite garb, its normal everyday clothes for me. I drive 2 old Rovers as everydaytransport, a 47 16hp and a 54 90. I love driving them, theyre my everyday cars. I love ancient London buses - Routemasters are splendid but i prefer pre war vehicles. I revel in nostalgia because that seems more real than the present which i struggle with. Spose i must be a bit eccentric

Vanguards VA06501 - Rover 3500 V8 - Metropolitan Police Car - Limited Edition

Vanguards Rover 3500 V8 Metropolitan Police Car
I have several Rover P6 models from Corgi and Vanguards but have to say that this is my favourite one of them all including the original corgi one with Transolite headlamps. My favourite full-size Rovers were made between 1933 and 1964 and to me both the P5 31/2 litre and the P6 3500 are a bit modern therefore! I clearly recall both cars being released so you must realise I am ancient now, consequently I am paying this model a huge compliment by surprising myself and recognising what a good likeness it is. It really does get the feel of those blue Police Rovers that I used to see around London all the time when I was a boy. (They never traced me). That hard to define sense of realism is always the deciding factor for me in choosing models and this Metropolitan Rover really has achieved that attribute. This is the primary reason I always preferred Corgi above Dinky and Spot-On when growing up although I realise this is a personal thing. I have a Motorway Patrol P6 by Vanguards as well and I am very pleased with it but to my mind this London P6 takes the prize. 50 years ago it was so familiar and here it is, back again, albeit a little smaller this time than I remember! Incidentally, the two types of Vanguards Police 3500 look great together especially if you can arrange for them to be chasing an unfortunate felon in a Mk 2 Jag 3.4 or 3.8!

Vanguards Rover p4
The archetypal British postwar car beloved of the professional classes One of the world’s best engineered cars. One of Britain’s fine cars. Two advertising slogans that Rover used for years and years for cars that lasted for years and years, virtually indestructible, unfailingly dependable, produced by the company that got Frank Whittles revolutionary invention, the jet engine, to actually WORK. Rolls Royce keep very quiet about this! It was Rover who did the apparently impossible. Does the corgi model encapsulate Rovers design philosophy? I think it does! I’ve been driving these cars since 1963 so I should know. Completely under-rated now except by those who know better, this Rover model embodies those attributes that we used to associate with Rover until they finally lost their independence in the mid sixties. The Vanguards Rover though beautifully finished in true Rover style also epitomises great strength and ruggedness, dependability, a no- nonsense lets get on with it approach to motoring. But it’s sophisticated and refined, smooth as cream and will last indefinitely if maintained properly! Hoorah for the Rover P4! Well done, Vanguards, for your faithful modelling of this great-hearted car. Martin Gardener
