Summer Magic ~ Pure magic !!
6 of 6 found this helpful I was 8 years old and allowed to see Disney movies at the theater. The film was "Summer Magic" and I was entranced by it. I only saw it once (I come from the generation that had no VCR's or DVD's...movies could only be seen in theaters). Then in my 40's I found that I could buy a copy of "Summer Magic" to play on our VCR. It did not disappoint me...it was still every bit as magical as when I was 8 years old.
A family at "rag time" who have lost their home in Boston, move to a house they once saw on a family trip in the country. Hayley Mills, Dorothy Maguire and Burl Ives have a charm that is delightful as we follow the family through the move and settling into their new home and life. It is especially noteworthy for its depiction of the struggle and joys of young girls growing into young women. The charm of Disney songwriters, the Sherman brothers, weaves its pattern throughout the film.
We bought this most recent copy for our 12 year old granddaughter and her 8 year old sister. We had taken our copy for them to watch and our oldest granddaughter quickly fell under the magical spell of this movie, wanting a copy of her own, so she could watch it weekends and share it with her friends.
Generation to generation this film is one moms will want their daughters to have in their collection. "Summer Magic" is feminine and family education in the most delightful of ways.

This is a movie worth waiting for.
Each of the characters is distinctive, engaging and each reaches their goal and beyond.
Thank you for making such a great movie.

A Christmas Carol ~ stars Alistair Sim
9 of 9 found this helpful Many years ago, when first I met my husband, he introduced me to many movies that I had yet to see. One of them was "A Christmas Carol" starring Alistair Sim. I knew this classic Dickens story and had seen other versions of the story in movie form. But once I saw Alistair Sim as Mr. Scrooge...I was hooked! Mr. Sim wonderfully portrays Scrooge and in my mind has become the model to compare others against. The entire production is done to give the true Dickens feeling to this holiday classic. Tiny Tim is well portrayed and his lips even have a slight tinge of blue...indicative of a problem with normal breathing associated with his illness. From the moment the action begins it holds the attention of the viewer all the way through...and leaves all with a feeling that we should search our souls to be sure there is no "Scrooge" within us that we need to change! This film is watched by us throughout the year, as well as at Christmas. If you have not seen this version I strongly recommend that you do view this one. It is available in the original black and white and now in the colorized version as well. Some dvd's have both types so that you are able to choose your favorite way to watch this life lesson and film wonder! Once you have viewed Alistair Sim as Scrooge...I don't think you will want to see anybody else in that role or any other version of this film.
