    The Soul of Rousl unlayered
Sensitive layering of Russian psyche bound up in historic context. Very readable with sensitivity extremely few "Western minds" can appreciate, let alone write with competence.

    Expose of fractured aviation dream
Not every avenue of engineering exploration gets it right - especially in the days when a single stress calculation equation, pencil on paper, would take two weeks to complete. The so-obvious failures and performance/engineering shortcomings of the R100 were echoed most tragically in the sister ship R101. These were experimental concepts, deliberately going beyond contemporary Zepplin practice. Noting the singular success and 100% accident-free flights of the latter were above the placid waters of Lake Como. That the R100 successful intercontinental flight was successful (only just !) and the R101 was not comes down to the spin of a coin: the R100 was substituted for the flight intended for the R101. Neither ship would have survived any flight of any length in other than most favourable met conditions - and primarily over water, not any land mass. Attempts even now - going against decades of historic failure - are equally fraught with failure.
