Women rarely hear the empowering stories about birth - only the grim ones. This book pulls no punches and does include some less than ideal births and yet the women (and men) involved find just how empowering a good birth (even with a less than fantastic outcome) is. The main thrust of the book is to give women the confidence to allow their body to do what it has evolved to do - give birth and do so successfully. It's an easy and excellent read.

Birth is often portrayed as a scary event rather than a normal part of life. This book provides reassurance that birth is eminently 'do-able' via the personal stories of women who have been and done it before. The stories are compelling, realistic and overwhelmingly re-assuring even when things go wrong.

OK book if you don't mind being told the blinding obvious.
I'm not quite sure what the fuss is about this book. We read it in my book club and frankly it wasn't particularly interesting finding out (surprise) that even the best looking life in the world has its downsides. Reading Stoic philosophy tells you that.
