Zim: Toons, not just for kids anymore, adult perfect!
Invader Zim is a cartoon that was well before its time. It aired on Nickelodeon network with its target children in their early teens. It is about an inhabitant of the Irken empire whom longs to be an "invader". In his attempt to prove his worth he inadvertently destroys most of his home planet. He is ultimately banished, but thinks he is an "invader with a mission". On earth he tries to blend in with humans and goes to school to learn more about earth. He blends poorly, yet only one child in the class realizes he is an alien. Dib,the student who notices, has an interest in the paranormal. As incompetent as Zim is at invading Earth, Dis is at foiling Zim's plans. Together they bring about a great mix of witty, classc, dark humor. It was created by Johan Vasquez and is the perfect representation of a cartoon series that straddles the line between children's and adult entertainment. It's hilarious, has generated a "cult" following, and will stand the test of time. These disks will always be a winner when there is nothing on TV or you need a good comic "pick me up".

Symphonic Metallica
When the Moody Blues played with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, a performance and/or recording of Metallica playing with any orchestra was something that never occurred to any heavy metal fan let alone Metallica fan. Michael Kamen scrored the symphonic offering on Nothing Else Matters on the Black Album he suggested Metallica play with a symphony. From that point on, it was always in the in the back of the band's collective mind to actually play with an orchestra. This brought us the Metallica S&M double cd. After Metallica played live with a symphony, many other hard rockers felt safe in scoring their music and doing the same. This introduced music many who would have never dreamed of listening to to harder, heavier genre. This also showed the world how all genres of music are related and part of a greater woven tapestry and all are relevant.

Van Halen; it Blew Our Rockin Minds
The first Van Halen album, Van Halen, took those of us who preferred acid rock, hard rock, and the newly tagged heavy metal, slapped us up side the head and said this is how its done! Edward Van Halen could do things with his 6 string that we only dreamed of. We all loved Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, but here comes music just has hard, just as heavy but with a more up beat party flair. It was good for guys, as few "chics" were into what was more of an under ground genre of music, this was music that "chics" liked too. And, guys liked it very much! And, once "chics" found Van Halen the door was opened to a huge amount of hard/heavy rock that they loved and worked hard to catch up on. Girls wanted in the game too! Artists like Van Halen that were heavy but accepted by the main stream opened the door for new bands to come, such as the epic Guns and Roses. But, above all, with their own unique sound, Van Halen stood on their own laurels and went on to produce a boat load of fantastic albums. For all who love Van Halen this is a must have and for all who are newly introduced to Van Halen this is a must have intro album.
