An old favourite that never disappoints me
This is my third viewing with years between each one.
There are parts that i didn't remember at all well in detail, but if anything i was pleasantly surprised all over again.
Greer Garson plays Elizabeth so well, and the story really gets you in i think. Yes, some of it is a bit over-the-top even for that era, but it's a magical story that will steal the heart of any true romantic. Men who may not normally regard themselves as very romantic, could also find this engrossing and very moving.
No doubt i will watch this again, especially now i have the movie at home. In my all-time top 5.

Worth watching, inspiring if at times heartbreaking
Being based on a real life character, such heroic stories are always inspiring.
I got the impression that it departed on occasion, probably with good reason, from the strict details of Gehrig's life. But it was believable enough to be interesting and moving.
I would recommend this movie to others.

Insipid feature actor & frustrating storyline
I guess it's not Brad Pitt's fault that he left me feeling frustrated for most of the film. However he did agree to play this role and must have eventually gone along with the director's interpretation.
Without giving too much away, because others have a right to watch it and make up their own minds, i was disappointed with how the female lead character responded to the insipid version of Brad Pitt's character, romantically (and more). So little discrimination on her part as to the difference between Joe Black and his "former self"! And in my view even Anthony Hopkins' character was way too accommodating of this unconvincing "angel".
I bought it on good recommendation from someone i normally share very similar taste in movie plots. I'm glad i have now formed my own view. I think the story is weakly thought out and i don't think i am being arrogant when i say i could have done better job with the promising idea on which the story is based. Good movie idea, poor interpretation!
