  Conveniently, the seller messaged me after I’d won the auction, and paid, stating that the item was stolen. How unfortunate. If such a thing genuinely happened, one would think one would refund as soon as that happened, rather than taking 24 hours, and eBay having got involved. Maybe the stress of the burglary prevented the seller from thinking clearly. Perhaps a lesson in eBay usage is needed, to set a reserve or starting price at a level you are happy with. Avoid.
