Hang 'Em High
Love this movie in which Clint Eastwood is beginning to define his role in American made westerns, as the tough good guy to which bad things happen, but nevertheless he triumphs in the end. Bruce Dern and Dennis Hopper are always two names to look for in a western with bad guys being a little bent as well as evil.
Ben Johnson could have been used a little more, since his persona defines cowboy. Overall, one my my favorite Eastwood cowboy movies, but not as good as The Unforgiven or the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

1 of 1 found this helpful Not a movie for the faint at heart. Izo is an historical character that actually murdered quite a few people, but really never was accepted as an Samurai with any class. Coming from the bottom of the rung in the Samurai world, he was used by the powers that be, to eliminate people for the Shinsengumi. protectors of the Shogunate. What Takashi Miike does with his story is to see him at the end of his short life being crucified for his crimes against the people. Miike's afterlife world for Izo is no joy ride into Hell as only Miike could portray it. It is graphic and horrific, not understandable by people not familiar with Miike's films. Surreal yes, to the point that you just have to follow Izo on his way to Hell, if he can get it. It may shock you, but no more than the real life slaughter carried out by these Samurai at the Eve of the Meiji Restoration.
