Galaxie Ltd 1:25 1947 Chevy Fleetmaster Coupe Plastic Model Kit 13031
    07 February 2016
At long last a fat-fendered Chevy coupe!
I have been aware of Gary Schmitt's models ever since the early days of Scale Auto Enthusiast. I love that he's a guy who put his money where his mouth was, in that he created models of subjects that nobody else deemed worthy. I bought the 46/48 sedan delivery when it came out, and intended to get the aerosedan, but I really wanted a coupe, since that was my dad's first car, which he loved. I was delighted to see this kit materialize, and I have to echo all the wild praise heaped upon the original 46/48 Chevies, as this is a natural outgrowth of them: everything is exactly the same, and perfect from the previous kits, but with the coupe body, which is also perfect. My only quibble is that even though the 46 grille is included, it still takes a lot of effort to turn this model into a true 46 Chevy, as you'll have to scuff off the beltline trim and add your own door-handle-level trim, which, for experienced modelers won't be a problem, but which, without it, makes a kind of mutt model. I realize there are many rat-rodders who couldn't care less, but for those of us replica stock modelers, it's a challenge. Still, Gary has made a very good replica stock model, and those details are just part of the challenge of making a truly remarkable car. This is far above and beyond everything we modelers could expect from the biggies, and I am so happy that a hobbyist like us managed to parlay his passion into a business. I can't wait to see what else he has up his sleeve! Mike
