Exactly what I was after
3 of 3 found this helpful I'd been on the lookout for good quality Shea Butter ever since I read about it's effectiveness as a natural moisturiser a while ago. Having bought several Naissance products in the past, and been pleased with them, I thought I'd give their Shea offering a try too.
The price seemed very reasonable, so that was attractive. It arrives in a large white plastic tub (which has a lot of re-use potential!) that's aroun 20cm in diameter and about 11cm deep. The Shea Butter was cut into one large oblong block inside, with a couple of smaller slivers alongside to make up the 1kg weight. So internal presentation isn't anything to speak about, but it's simple and practical.
The product itself is great. A lot of people have described Shea has having a slightly "smoky" aroma, and I'd say that's about right - I really like it personally. It's very dense and solid in its raw state. This isn't something you can smear on your skin out of the tub. It's a bit like ice cream straight from the freezer. Uh, but without the coldness and anticipation of a sweet treat.
I've found that if you cut off a chunk with a knife, and then give it a good pounding in a pestle and mortar it becomes much softer, more malleable and easier to work with. But I expect you could just drop it in a blender and achieve much the same effect with less arm work. To my concoction I added a bit of coconut oil, which gave a nice creamy texture. And then I just apply it to the skin. It leaves a fairly of a shiny complexion, so I'd probably not go out with it on, but it's cooling and pleasant on the skin at home.
Will definitely buy again.
