Good but may not suit DC controlled layouts
These are very characterful little models that are beautifully finished and run sweetly. They are also well featured with fitted speaker (for DCC sound), firebox flicker and a nice detail pack including (non working) lamps. The only drawback is that the coreless motor will not suit if you have an older DC controller - I tried running it on standard Hornby trainset controller and it is virtually uncontrollable whilst making a terrible noise. Not a problem for me as my layout is DCC but be aware if you are a DC only user.

A second glimpse....
This is more than a reprint of the original title (circa 1969) - it is a reimagining with changed presentation and some new photos. It is a railway work of art - indispensable for any lover of steam and photography.

Superb recording
This is a superb recording of D1015 - a loco that has regularly run main line and you can tell by the way the engines really roar in a way I'm not sure loco's that never get over 25mph do. I have installed in the Dapol 00 version and it gives very good controllability with the sounds responding well to the way the loco is driven. The option to 'run' on one engine or two is novel but works well. The quality of the recording shows if you get the chance to play it through a high quality speaker. Sounds superb through a DC Kits Earth Mover tho this may require a little chassis modification. A Zimo dumbo would be my recommendation.
