Philips SHP9500S Over-Ear Headphone Exclusive - Black

Solid and affordable headphones, but no frills

Got drawn by numerous praises on this product from diverse internet sites. Among other items, I also own another pair of Philips headphones (SHP5401) that were a fabulous steal for the 30$ I paid for, so figured this is worth a shot. Given all the fuss I honestly expected something more out of SHP9500S, but unfortunately it's not the case. Yes, the headphones are comfortable, quite light, but they do not surpass the earlier model in any way. I own a huge archive of compressed sources (MP3's mostly) which are far from perfect in quality, and here SHP9500s is struggling to get the decent sound. Took me hours playing with diverse equalizer settings, and still not fully satisfied. The open back architecture is also something to consider - sound leak to surroundings is very loud, so recommend using these at home, just for private listening sessions. To conclude - SHP9500s are still a good buy, providing alike quality as more expensive Sennheiser or Bose products for an affordable price, but I sincerely miss the wow effect.
