TomTom Spark Cardio + Music Large Shocking Blue NEW VERSION FREE SHIPPING!
    14 June 2016
Excellent as an activity tracker - mediocre as a music player.
This is my first fitness watch/activity tracker, so I don't have anything to compare it against. I got it for use running and mountain biking, and it works beautifully for both. On the overall it's great, and I find myself using it all the time, just as an activity tracker, and even to monitor my sleep patterns. It does all of that very well. It takes a couple of days of playing around with it to get used to where everything is located in the left/right/up/down scrolling menus, and sometimes things seem to change a little bit with software updates. Instructional videos on TomTom's YouTube channel can be of assistance figuring stuff out, although I've discovered that not everything works exactly the same way from one model to another, and TomTom makes several different watches that do very similar things. But it should give you a pretty good idea. And as with anything, you will eventually discover odd quirks here and there, but in my approximately three weeks of constant use, I have yet to find anything that really annoys me. The build quality is pretty good from what I can tell in the short time I've had it. It's comfortable to wear, and I like the strap design that lacks the moving hinge of most watches I'm familiar with. It seems as though it's less likely to wear out or break that way. The color (blue) is not quite as stunning as it appears in pictures, but is still quite pleasing to the eye. The large single button can sometimes get in the way when doing regular day-to-day tasks, and on a rare occasion I've felt a vibration on my wrist and looked down to discover I've inadvertently scrolled to another screen by leaning on it or something, but this is not a normal occurrence. The display dirties pretty easily, but it cleans up just as easily, and is easy to read in most light conditions. It offers a night mode that can be turned on for night runs that keeps the screen lit for the duration on the run, which is nice if you frequently check your wrist for you pace/time/distance, but is a battery sucker for sure. And speaking of battery life, this watch does a lot of cool stuff, but be careful trying to do all of that cool stuff at once. Just used as a watch and activity tracker, you will get several days off a single charge. But try to go for a run using GPS, heart rare monitoring, night mode, while streaming music... and you will find yourself limited to probably 2 hours or less. I began a run with 3/4th battery indicated, activated all of that stuff I just named, ran for one hour, and got back to find an extremely low battery indication. I would recommend maybe going without night mode (as far as I can tell, you need to set that to either ON or OFF prior to starting your run) to save battery unless you need to check your stats often, in which case, go without the music. And since I'm talking music now, let's go there. If I had to pick a single weakness of this device, it is as a music player. I had some difficulty pairing with my headphones initially, and ended up having to do a factory reset on the watch once, which seems to have fixed it. Navigating playlists and tracks is not super easy or intuitive, and you kind of just have to put on some tunes and go and not worry about anything else. I do have frequent issues with audio chopping and skipping, but that could very well be my cheap Bluetooth headphones, rather than the watch itself. I'm now waiting on a new set of headphones (I'm going to try TomTom's own variety this time, to see if they work any better, but my experience with my cheaper headphones so far has been less than awesome. On the overall, I'm very glad I got this, and I would absolutely recommend it. Although I might caution you to take a look at one of the slightly cheaper variations that come without the music player capabilities and see if you can perhaps go that route. It's a nice feature, but just don't expect it to work as smoothly as your old iPod might.
