Great if your bike is not made for a rack
1 of 1 found this helpful I put this on my Bianchi to be able to put panniers on for a California north coast cycle tour. This was the only rack I found that had stabilization rods that attach to the seat stays. This is a great option if you own a bike that is not made with attachement point for a rear rack. That said, there are some things to be aware of... I had to add more material (wrapped tape around) to make it so that the clamps would tightly grip my seat stays and seat tube (maybe mine are thinner than most), but once I did that and tightened the three clamps way down the rack was quite sturdy. Also, it sits pretty high above the wheel (about 5 inches for me) giving it a higher center of mass than a normal bike rack (~1-2 inches above the wheel) and making the bike a bit harder to handle when loaded. Most importantly the frames that hang/loop down on each side to attach panniers to do not quite work with standard pannier clip spacing; they need to extend about another inch downward to allow the lower clip of pannier bags to slide on and off (I had to attach the bottom of my panniers in an unusual way and could not easily remove them from the frame).
In the end, I rode about 450 miles, over some really rough roads, with about 35-40 pounds of gear on the rack, and it held up great. I would recommend this rack, with the warning that you will likely have to make some adjustment to make it work. If you have the option to use/get a bike that is made with attachment points for a screw on rack, that would be the best option.
